Sociologists and their selfreflection during the Great Depression in Western society
Bártová, Berenika ; Balon, Jan (advisor) ; Hanzal, Petr (referee)
"Special relationship" before the World War 2?
Bayer, Michael ; Soukup, Jaromír (advisor) ; Plechanovová, Běla (referee)
The thesis describes the relationship between the United States of America and Great Britain in the period before the Second World War, with emphasis on the interwar period. The two Anglophone countries have been in some elementary connection since the War of Independence, which did develop further during the administration of President Theodor Roosevelt and later his cousin and distant relative Franklin D. Roosevelt. However, close cooperation, as was the case after the outbreak of World War II and during the Cold War, was rather non-existent and relations were not always ideal. What never disappeared, however, was the mutual effort to lead the discussion, despite almost sometimes hostile relations. This work aimed to examine those difficult relations between Great Britain and the United States and to show how mutual relations changed and over time connected their destinies.

Afterwards, there will be interpreted several strategies and motivations of historical players (workers movement, political parties, other local elites of the town), which led to a competition for dominance. Substantial emphasis is placed on the analysis of ideology and strategy of Czechoslovak Communist party which struggled for hegemony over the local community of workers. Šíma, Adam ; Sehnálková, Jana (advisor) ; Perutka, Lukáš (referee)
This bachelor thesis examines the impact of New Deal program on the unemployment in the USA in 1930s. New Deal was a series of measures reacting to the consequences of Great Depression created by Franklin Delano Roosevelt and his Brain Trust. Firstly, thesis seeks to identify the unemployment estimates most suitable for set goals. It proceeds to analyze the unemployment in this era on the national as well as regional level and finds out that changes in unemployment rates reacted to the creation of public works projects. In more detail it focuses on South Atlantic region and looks for the causes of surprisingly high increase of employment rate in the period of 1929-1940. Next follows a case study of New Deal's impact on African Americans in this region. In this matter the thesis concludes, that increasing employment in the 1930s did not apply to black population in the same ways as to white population. Economic Analysis of the Business Activity of the Selected Banks in Czechoslovakia during the Great Depression (1929-33)
Bosáková, Diana ; Doležalová, Antonie (advisor) ; Moravcová, Hana (referee)
This thesis deals with the analysis of the economic situation of selected five Czechoslovak banks: Živnostenská banka, Tatra banka, Anglo-československá banka, Banka Československých legií and Agrárna banka during the Great Depression. Through the available data from 1922 - 1938, the development of the behavior and efficiency of banks in the pre-crisis and during the period is proven. The aim of this work is to describe the situation of banks before the onset of the economic crisis and to identify the behavior of bank management during the Great Depression using four financial indicators. Financial indicators examine the profitability, liquidity and solvency of banks. The results of the work showed that banks behaved inefficiently already before the crisis, which is indicated by low values of return on equity and assets. The ratio of loans to deposits due to the crisis has fallen in almost all banks, but points to the inefficient behavior of some of the Czechoslovak banks as part of low lending before the crisis. Although none of the Czechoslovak banks collapsed during the crisis, this thesis points to the inefficient behavior of bank management, which relied heavily on state aid.
